Don't get distracted

Lots of hyenas-eating-each-other energy in the Trump White House just at the moment. It's important not to lose focus.

It was, after all, inevitable that the coalition that put the President in office would fall apart eventually. His MAGA base is nativist, populist and reactionary. His tech-bro enablers are globalists. His moneyed-class donors are merely greedy. Sooner or later, they were bound to realize how much they hate one another.

Meanwhile, the worst budget ever to pass a vote in Congress is moving forward. The Republican proposal guts programs that benefit middle class and poor Americans – Medicare, SNAP, medical and technological research, grants for education, investment in addressing climate change and more – just to extend tax cuts for corporations and the already wealthy.

Responsible estimates from the Congressional Budget Office and non-partisan analysts estimate an additional 2.5 to 4 trillion dollars in national debt, thanks to handouts to the wealthy.

The President and his close cabal continue to marginalize Congress and the courts. The Judiciary has shown some spine, with rulings from judges (including those appointed by Trump in his first administration) that he has overstepped his authority on immigration, illegal detentions, retributive lawsuits and taxation. Congress has been almost completely supine, meekly offering up its power and authority in violation of the Constitution and the oaths that each member took.

Trump has planned a huge military parade in Washington, DC on his birthday, June 14. Americans across the country are planning demonstrations to refute the policies and ambitions of the administration on the same day. Check out No Kings for information on activities in your local area. Show up!
